How to SUCCEED in OUR Class:
Cell Phones in the Classroom
In English class, you must keep your cell phones out of sight, in your backpacks, and on "silent" mode during all lesson presentations and teaching time. There will be times when I will ask you to use your cell phones for class activities (such as quizzes, forms, research). Sometimes during seatwork time, I will allow you to listen to music, at which time you may take out your cellphones. However, if your cellphone becomes a distraction, I will address this with you, and possibly ask you to take your phone to your VP.
We will be using Google Classroom in this course.
Instructions:
- Go to your WRDSB googleapps account by typing: google.wrdsb.ca
- From there, it will prompt you to do a single sign-on. Use your userid and password as you would to get on to the school computers.
- Google drive will be your default page. Go to the grid icon at the top right of the screen and click on "classroom" (scroll down).
- Click on "join classroom."
- Enter this code: s3anmpg
Class Expectations
- Be on time – Being on time is polite and respectful; being late is disruptive and disrespectful.
- Be prepared -- Bring your English binder, a pen or pencil, paper, and any required textbooks.
- Be respectful -- Treat others in the classroom how you would like to be treated yourself. Foul language, insults or negative comments will not be tolerated. Pay attention to your classmates and your teacher!
- Be efficient -- Use your class time wisely! Most assignments are designed so that by working efficiently, you should be able to complete them in class. What you don’t complete in class, you will have to drag home with you and complete there.
- Be organized -- Organize your binder into the following sections and put your handouts in the appropriate sections:
- Language & Writing
- The Hero's Journey
- Speak
- Film Study and Essay Writing
- Book Club
- Media Project
- Be responsible -- Complete all homework and assignments. Be sure to complete assignments on the due date that is assigned. Handing in assignments late will only cause you to get behind and then it is harder to catch up on missed work. Use your class time wisely and you should be able to get things done. Attend all classes -- if you know you are going to be absent, please let me know ahead of time. You must get caught up on your own time.
- Be tidy -- you may bring water bottles into class, but please do not bring in food.
How to SUCCEED in OUR Class:
- Use your class time effectively and will have little to no homework in this course
- If you know you are going to be away, let me know
- After you are away, please check to see what you missed (check the "What did I miss?" box and the class website)
- Do not plagiarize – you will probably get caught (thanks to technology), and we would love to hear YOUR insightful ideas
- Do not just use spell/grammar check on the computer (always print off a copy to proofread)
- Always try your best, even on small assignments
- Hand your assignments in on time; it is best to finish assignments when they are assigned so you don't fall behind
- Read all feedback on your assignments, so you can improve on the next one
- PARTICIPATE - we want to hear from you and it helps you sort out your ideas
